Wellness Wednesday

Today's Workout:

Everyone has their own way of unwinding and releasing stress. Some people take a warm bath or read a book, however for me, running completely de-stresses me and motivates me to do things. We live in a very hectic world where deadlines need to be met and our energy is consumed by our to-do lists. By taking care of your body and health I can assure you that you will be able to handle stressful situations with much more ease.

You're probably wondering what is the link between exercise and handling stress effectively. Let's take running for example. For many people, myself included, running offers a boost in energy, confidence, mood and self-esteem. This "feel good" sensation is caused by a chemical called endorphins. Endorphins allow us to feel pleasure and satisfaction. So, if exercise increases our energy, boosts our confidence, makes us feel happy and increases our self-esteem, then dealing with difficult situations becomes easier because we are confident and sure of ourselves.

For some people, running gives them a burst of creativity and a sense of freedom. Many runners have said that they suddenly have the most innovative ideas when they run. It's as if they are de-cluttering the mess they have in their mind and solely allowing positive thoughts into it. Today I would like to encourage you to do something positive for yourself. Do something that will benefit your well-being and make you feel like a rock star. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Take a risk. Challenge yourself to do something that scares you. Get out of your comfort zone like talking to a stranger, trusting someone, going out for a run, etc.
  • Laugh. Don't take life too seriously. Laugh often and have fun with life.

  • Practice gratitude. Make a list of the things you're thankful for.
  • Discover or rediscover a passion. It will give you a sense of purpose and it will add value to your life.

Today I have chosen to practice gratitude. At the end of my blog posts, I will mention something that I am thankful for.

  4. I run to de-stress after a taxing day, as well! I have final exams coming up very soon, and I've been studying all day. When I came home, I went on a run and felt so much better! It's amazing how running has such a powerful effect on energy levels and mood!
