Nature is Your Playground

Today's Workout:
40 minutes on stationary bike

12 minutes of:
30 air squats
20 sit-ups
10 push ups

Hello friends and HAPPY RUNNING DAY!
As thousands of Americans celebrate National Running Day, I would like to express the reasons why running has become my passion and a part of my identity. When I began running a few years ago to lose weight I never imagined falling in love with it. As the years have passed, I've come to thoroughly understand why I love running. Running makes me feel free and uninhibited. My most creative thoughts and brilliant ideas occur when I am running. It may seem difficult to fathom the enigmatic nature of running, but any runner can relate to these feelings. Runners are in a class of their own. We are crazy, reclusive, driven, strong-minded, determined and passionate.
Other runners understand why we (runners) leave parties early on a Friday night. They understand why we don't drink alcoholic beverages or why we eat gluten-free food. They understand why we wake up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday night to run 20 miles and they understand why we feel so bitter when we don't PR (achieve your personal best record). They understand why we continue running until our watch says you have completed x number of miles versus cutting it short by a few yards.
Running makes me feel whole and complete. It makes me feel happy, healthy and sane. The adage of "Running is life" has become a sort of truth for which I live by. The notion of running has embodied my personality and the person that I am. I am a runner!
Today I want to encourage you to run and exercise. You don't need lavish gyms or a bunch of money to workout. When you see that all forms of exercise are free, you will find workout opportunities everywhere. For example:
  • You don't need a treadmill to run, you can simply run outside or at a park. If you want to walk or run at an incline, find a hill, mountain or bridge.

  • You could also run up and down a staircase or on bleachers for another type of aerobic activity.

  • If you want to weight lift, grab a tire or a basketball with sand inside of it and carry them or drag them around.

The possibilities are endless, you just have to push yourself and be creative! Nature is your playground. So embrace National Running Day and do something that's active and fun. NO EXCUSES!!!

  1. HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY! After work, I'm going to run 4 miles solo to reach my team on the Williamsburg Bridge- a brigde that connects Manhattan to Brooklyn. We organized a relay there and I'm going to volunteer fo it! Can't wait!

  2. Though I'd love to be running in the great outdoors for National Running Day, I will have to stick with a gym. I'm in Reno, NV, and the place where we are is not that great for running. However... just like Valentine's Day, I will express my love of running all year long. I'll get in a nice outdoor run some time at the end of this week :)

    1. You've got the right attitude. It doesn't matter where you run as long as you get to do it. =)

  3. I did a group run with some locals, and met up with my favorite brand rep. Great night of running and a cold beer after!

  4. I ran 7 miles around my neighborhood in the morning. It was a beautiful day to go running!
